Objective:Sports in non-governmental organizations (NGOs) is increasingly recognized as an important issue, as these organizations tend to focus more on economic matters and productivity, paying less attention to employee health and sports activities. Physical activity not only has positive individual health outcomes but also leads to increased productivity and enhanced social capital from social and economic perspectives. Therefore, this study analyzed the status of sports and recreational activities in NGOs.
Methodology: This research is applied in terms of purpose and qualitative in nature, employing a grounded theory approach based on Glaser’s method. The research instrument was semi-structured interviews. The statistical population consisted of professors, specialists, and experts in sports management until theoretical saturation of the extracted components was achieved (12 participants). The validity of the study was confirmed through internal consensus and expert opinions.
Findings: A total of 180 codes were obtained and classified into 20 concepts. The results indicated that motivation, socio-economic and cultural factors, management, demographics, policymaking, and interactions are among the most significant factors explaining sports and recreational activities in NGOs.
Conclusion:The final results of this study provide a framework for policymakers, sports managers, and organizational leaders to institutionalize organizational sports as part of sustainable development strategies within NGOs.
