Relationship between Goal Orientations, Perceived Motivational Climate and Sportspersonship in Youth Athelets

Abstract

This investigation examined the relationships between goal orientation, motivational climate and sportspersonship orientation. Participants were 366 youth male athletes age (M=17.51±2.47). The athletes completed TEOSQ, PMCQ, and MOSO questionnaire. Pearson Product Moment Correlation showed task orientation and perceived task motivational climate was positive related to respect for the rules and the officials, respect for the opponent, and respect for social conventions. Regression analysis revealed task motivational climate is the only predicator for respect for the rules and the officials, respect for the opponent, and respect for social conventions. In conclusion, athletes in task motivational climate may be more willing to behave morality and sports personship orientation.
