Strategic analysis of green sports tourism potentials with emphasis on sustainable development in Iran based on SWOT technique

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to analyze the strategic potential of green sports tourism with an emphasis on sustainable development based on the SWOT technique. The current research was applied-developmental in terms of purpose and descriptive-analytical in terms of method and nature. The statistical population of the qualitative section was sports management professors specializing in the field of green sports tourism, and in-depth interviews were conducted with 26 elites who were knowledgeable about the subject by snowball method. Friedman's test and simultaneous analysis of internal and external factors from the internal and external matrix of IE were used to analyze the data. Based on the SWOT analysis, a total of 23 strategies including five SO strategies, nine ST strategies, five WO strategies and four WT strategies were formulated for the strategic solutions of green sports tourism development with a mediating role of sustainable development. The findings of the internal and external matrix indicate that the potentials of green sports tourism with an emphasis on sustainable development are strategically located in the ST region; In this way, it has strength in terms of internal factors and threats in terms of external factors. However, it should be noted that the development of tourism requires determining the capacity and gaining comprehensive knowledge of the natural resources, threats and opportunities in the external environment and recognizing its internal weaknesses and strengths in order to measure the situation and develop strategies to guide and control the management system.
