Requirements and consequences of good governance in Iranian sports with an approach to Accountability and Media Transparency

Abstract

Abstract

Objective: The present study aimed to identify and prioritize the requirements and consequences of good governance in Iranian sports through accountability and media transparency.
Methodology: This research employed a mixed-methods approach (Qualitative & Quantitative) with an applied-developmental objective. Participants included 16 experts in sports management and media, selected through snowball sampling for interviews. Data analysis in the qualitative section involved coding interviews through three rounds until theoretical saturation and consensus was reached, while the quantitative section utilized fuzzy analysis. The validity of the research was confirmed through member checks, auditing methods, participatory approaches, and pluralism, at the same time reliability was calculated using Scott's Pi coefficient of 0.90 and a consistency criterion of less than 1.0.
Findings: Qualitative results revealed 10 fundamental requirements for good governance in Iranian sports, categorized as (International, Managerial, External, Internal, Social & Cultural, Technological, Legal & Regulatory, Structural, & Educational), across 44 items. Additionally, 10 positive consequences were identified and prioritized: (prevention of corruption, increased public trust, technological advancement in sports, maintaining dialogue and social interaction, improvement in management quality, enhancement of sports organizations' performance, sustainable development, strengthening communications, increased inclusion and diversity, & promotion of sports culture).

Conclusion: Identifying and implementing fundamental requirements for good governance in Iranian sports, focusing on accountability and media transparency, can lead to positive outcomes, such as reducing corruption, achieving gender equality, enhancing diversity, and promoting sustainable development in sports.
