Abstract

The aim of the present research is to analyze the application of the VRIO framework in the strategic management of emerging sports teams in Iran. In the present study, qualitative methodology has been used. Considering the objective of the present study, which was to collect, summarize, conceptualize, and categorize concepts to answer the main research question; therefore, the purposive sampling method through documentation and interviews, which were aligned with the objectives of the present research, were utilized. In this regard, non-probability sampling using the snowball method was undertaken, so that after 10 interviews with research experts in 15 stages, the researcher reached theoretical saturation. In the present study, the double coding method and the thematic analysis method of Willcocks were used for data analysis to ensure validation. After coding and analyzing the texts derived from the research, 130 basic themes, 4 organizing themes, and 1 main theme were discovered and inferred from the initial codes. Based on the research findings, it can be stated that emerging sports teams in Iran can achieve a sustainable competitive advantage by utilizing the VRIO framework and focusing on four key factors: high-return investment in talent development, the use of modern sports technologies, identifying team identity and social interactions, and the effectiveness of leadership and team management. These findings indicate that successful teams need not only to manage their resources effectively but also to use innovative strategies to leverage talents, strengthen team culture, and utilize technology to improve performance and increase productivity.
